Fans pay respects to Johan Cruyff at Barcelona’s Camp Nou memorial

Thousands of fans mourning the death of Johan Cruyff have paid their respects to former Barcelona player and coach at a temporary memorial at the Camp Nou.

The Spanish club said over 5000 fans passed through the Memorial of 13:30 local time on Saturday. Will remain open until Tuesday, when players of Barcelona will be present after returning from international duty.

Attendees may sign a book of condolence and file past a big picture of the Dutch, who died Thursday of lung cancer, inside the lobby of the stadium. The photo was accompanied by the club and flags of Catalonia and rose bouquet.

The President of Barcelona, Josep Bartomeu, inaugurated the Memorial on Saturday morning for the "master" who "changed our club." "These are sad days, very sad for the world of Barcelona and also for the world of football," said Bartomeu.

The Real Madrid President, Florentino Pérez, President of the Catalonia region, Carles Puigdemont, paid their respects together with fans.

Some scarves left fan, flowers and lollipops – that Cruyff didn't as manager after quitting smoking after heart surgery – outside the stadium.

Bartomeu said they will be given the book of condolence to the family of Cruyff. After winning three consecutive European cups with Ajax, Cruyff Joined mid-season Barcelona in 1973 and brought the middle-of-the-table team to their first national title in a decade.

He later returned as coach and guided tours of Barcelona to four consecutive Spanish Championships from 1991-94 and the club's first European Cup in 1992. Barcelona Cruyff believes the mastermind of their signature based on passage attacking football that helped them become the dominant team in the world over the past decade.

Bartomeu and seven former Presidents wrote in a public letter that the "professional and personal footprint left at our club is huge."
